Online Check-in: You can check in any time online from 30 hours before your flight’s departure  (24 hours for flights to or from the United States).

Airport check-in

Self-service kiosk
The fastest way to check in at the airport is through a self-service kiosk found near the check-in desks. Through the kiosk, you can check in from 30 hours before departure – or 24 hours before departure for flights to or from the United States.

Note: Self-service kiosks may not be available at all airports. 

Check-in desks
The regular opening hours of the check-in desks at most airports are:
• European flights: until 40 minutes before departure.
• Intercontinental flights: until 60 minutes before departure.

Baggage drop-off
You can leave your checked baggage at the self-service drop-off points if they are available at the airport or at the check-in desks. These self-service drop-off points are typically situated close to the check-in desks.

The opening hours at most airports are:
• European flights: drop-off until 40 minutes before departure.
• Intercontinental flights: drop-off until 60 minutes before departure.

The self-service drop-off points and check-in desks may have varying opening and closing times at certain airports. For specific details on opening hours, check the airport website for detailed opening hours.

Be sure to verify the exact baggage allowance for your particular route, as it may vary from the standard allowance. Calculate your allowance on KLM’s website.

Hand baggage allowances by cabin: 

Economy Class allowance
In Economy Class, you’re always allowed to bring:
• 1 hand bag with a maximum size of 55 x 35 x 25 cm including handles and wheels;
• 1 accessory (such as a small handbag or laptop bag) with a maximum size of 40 x 30 x 15 cm.
• Your hand baggage can have a combined weight of up to 12 kg.

Premium Comfort Class allowance
In Premium Comfort Class, you’re always allowed to bring:
• 2 hand bags, each with a maximum size of 55 x 35 x 25 cm including handles and wheels;
• 1 accessory (such as a small handbag or laptop bag) with a maximum size of 40 x 30 x 15 cm.
• Your hand baggage can have a combined weight of up to 18 kg.

Business Class allowance
In Business Class, you’re always allowed to bring:
• 2 hand bags, each with a maximum size of 55 x 35 x 25 cm including handles and wheels;
• 1 accessory (such as a small handbag or laptop bag) with a maximum size of 40 x 30 x 15 cm.
• Your hand baggage can have a combined weight of up to 18 kg.

Hand baggage for babies
• The allowed number of bags you can bring onboard your flight for your children varies on whether or not they are not occupying their own seats. If they are travelling on your lap, you may bring one item that does not exceed the dimensions of 55 x 35 x 25 cm and a weight of 12 kg or less.

Checked baggage allowance per cabin:

Economy Class allowance
The allowance for checked bags in Economy Class is determined by your ticket type and destination. The option to purchase additional bags is available both during and after booking.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines always offer the following baggage allowance per ticket type.
• Light ticket: no checked baggage included.
• Standard or Flex ticket: 1 checked bag up to 158 cm (length + width + height) including handles and wheels and with a maximum weight of 23 kg.

On some routes, you can bring 1 additional checked bag on top of the regular allowance. Make sure to calculate the exact number for your route.

Premium Comfort Class allowance
• Two pieces of checked baggage
• Each bag must not exceed 158 cm (length + width + height) including handles and wheels
• Each bag should not weigh more than 23 kg.

Business Class allowance
• Two pieces of checked baggage. 
• Each bag can be up to 158 cm (length + width + height) including handles and wheels
• Each bag has a maximum weight of 32 kg.

Allowance for kids
The number of checked bags you can bring for your kids depends on their ticket type and whether or not they have their own seat.

• If they have their own seat: You can bring the number of checked bags that’s included in the ticket type you chose.
• Toddlers travelling on your lap: If you’ve booked a ticket type that includes checked baggage, you can bring 1 item of 10 kg for your child.

Excess baggage fee 
If you have” exceeded your baggage allowance or your baggage is heavier than expected, KLM will charge an excess fee:
• Between EUR 70 and EUR 200 on flights within Europe;
• Between EUR 75 and EUR 300 on intercontinental flights.

The maximum weight and size of excess baggage is 32 kg and 300 cm (length + width + height).

24 hours to cancel: A passenger may cancel their flight within 24 hours after booking and receive a full reimbursement with no extra fees. 

Rebooking/Changing a flight
Passengers can easily change the travel date, departure time, and destination of their flight via My Trip if they booked their flight via KLM, Air France, or Delta Airlines. 

Cancelling a flight
Passengers who booked their flight via KLM, Air France, or Delta Airlines can cancel (part of) their trip and their extra options by requesting a refund. Please note that it depends on the route, travel class, and ticket type how much you get refunded.

KLM allows cats and dogs in their cabin and hold. 

The number of pets allowed per flight depends on the type of aircraft, destination, and operating airline. Reserve a spot for your pet as soon as possible following the booking of your flight. The reservation should be made at least 48 hours before the scheduled departure of your flight.

Pets in the cabin 
Passengers are allowed 1 cat or dog in the cabin when travelling in Economy Class, or when travelling in Business Class within Europe.

Pets should fit in a closed pet travel bag or kennel with a maximum of 46 x 28 x 24 cm
Together with your pet, the travel bag or kennel can weigh no more than 8 kg.
Pets should stay inside their kennel at all times during the flight. 

Passengers travelling on an intercontinental route in Premium Comfort Class or Business Class are not permitted to bring their pets in the cabin. The placement of a kennel beneath the seat in front of you is not feasible in these travel classes. Placing a kennel underneath the seat in front of you is not possible in these travel classes.

Make a reservation for your pet travelling in the cabin as soon as possible after booking your flight. You can do so via My Trip.

Pets in the hold
Passengers are allowed up to 3 pets in the hold. They can share the same kennel if they weigh no more than 14 kg each, and they’re:
• 2 adult animals of comparable size, or
• 3 animals up to 6 months old from the same litter.

Make sure that the total weight of your pet and its kennel does not exceed 75 kg. For KLM flights, the kennel must not exceed 122 x 81 x 89 cm in size, while on KLM Cityhopper flights (operated with Embraer aircraft), the maximum dimensions are 102 x 69 x 76 cm for the kennel.
