  2. What is United Airlines’ baggage policy?

    Carry-on baggage: Each passenger is allowed to bring one personal item and one carry-on bag on board. The personal item must fit under the seat in front of you, while the carry-on bag must fit in the overhead bin.
    Size requirements:

    • Carry-on bags: The maximum size of 9 in x 14 in x 22 in (22 cm x 35 cm x 56 cm), including any handles or wheels.
    • Personal items: Must be 9 in x 10 in x 17 in (22 cm x 25 cm x 43 cm) or smaller.

    Please note that for most trips, you can only bring one personal item when you’re flying in Basic Economy. 

    Checked baggage: United Airlines offers several baggage options for checked baggage. The most a standard checked bag can measure (length + width + height) on the outside is 62 inches.

    Overweight bags: 
    • For bags weighing between 51-70 pounds (23-32 kg): Add $100 per bag each way
    • Bags weighing more than 100 pounds (45 kilograms) will not be accepted. Exceptions are made for musical instruments and assistive devices. Musical instruments up to 165 pounds (75 kilograms) and all assistive devices are allowed. 

    Extra bags
    Extra bags are accepted only if there is space available on the aircraft. Assistive devices will gladly be accepted for free.

    24-hour flexible booking policy: There will be no change fees if you bought your ticket from United Airlines within the last 24 hours and made the purchase at least one week before your original scheduled departure flight. This includes canceling your reservation and requesting a full refund of the ticket price. 

    Basic Economy reservations are not eligible for changes within 24 hours, but are eligible for a full refund if you cancel within 24 hours and made your purchase one week or more before the flight was scheduled to depart. Please view the terms and conditions here for more details. 

    No Change Fees: United Airlines has permanently gotten rid of change fees for most Economy and premium cabin tickets for flights within the U.S., or between the U.S. and Mexico or the Caribbean. The no change fees policy is also applicable for international travel originating in the U.S.

    Refund options: 
    Go to My Trips to first cancel the reservation and request a refund. The compensation you receive for a disruption to your flight and the type of ticket you have will determine whether you are offered a refund to the original payment method or a credit for a future flight.

    After canceling your reservation, fill out the refund form and United Airlines will contact you shortly to let you know whether your ticket qualifies for a refund. If your ticket qualifies, your refund will be credited back to your original form of payment. Please allow up to 7 business days for us to process your request.     If you miss your flight without informing United Airlines previously, a no-show is applicable on your ticket. United Airlines will forfeit 100% of the booking amount and receive no refund.

  6. What is United Airlines’ pet policy?

    Traveling with pets in-cabin is only allowed for cats and dogs when there’s space available.

    To book your pet’s flight, choose the option “Travel with a pet” when booking your flight on online. You can also add a pet to an existing reservation through the “My Trips” section on the United website. You cannot add a pet to your booking using the United app.

    There is a $125 fee each way for traveling with your pet and a $125 fee for each layover of more than four hours for flights within the U.S. and more than 24 hours internationally. Travel credits cannot be used to pay this fee.

    Carrier requirements
    • While there are no weight or breed limitations for pets, they must travel in either a hard-sided or soft-sided carrier. 
    • Pet carriers must fit under the seat in front of you or you cannot fly with your pet.
    • There can only be one pet per carrier, and they must be able to stand up and turn around while inside. 
    • Hard-sided carrier: 17.5” x 12” x 7.5” 
    • Soft-sided carrier: 18” x 11” x 11”

    Once you’re on your flight, your pet must stay in their carrier with the door closed, and under your seat at all times.
